Beginning May 7, 2025, airline passengers need an enhanced driver's license, known as Real ID, or a passport to board a plane. This change is based on a recommendation of the 9/11 Commission as a way to improve airline safety. But beware -- anytime there is a deadline there will also be scams. Some DMV locations across Southern California are opening their doors early now to help people get their new IDs on time before the May deadline.
