We recently had two clutches of wild blue duck / whio eggs brought to us as part of DOC's WHIONE programme (Whio Operation Nest Egg). The first clutch of 4 hatched successfully 10 days ago and are being raised here with a smaller captive bred clutch from Willowbank Wildlife Reserve. One of our Blue Duck / whio pairs, River and Meadow, have been busy laying their first clutch of eggs for the season, right on time. Meadow laid her first egg on July 28th last year, and we think it was almost exactly the same this year!
