Saint Francis University announced Tuesday that it plans to reclassify its athletic program to Division III in time for the fall 2026 season. Red Flash teams will join the Presidents Athletic Conference. “This was not an easy nor a quick decision for the Board of Trustees,” stated Chairman and the Very Rev. Joseph Lehman, T.O.R., Ph.D.

The 2025 men’s NCAA tournament might have been the last for St. Francis (PA). The school announced Tuesday that it will be dropping from Division I all the way to Division III after the 2025-26 college sports seasons. The announcement comes a week after the school nearly beat Alabama State in the First Four.

The remaining St. Francis in Division I is based in Loretto, Pennsylvania. That's a town of fewer than 1,200 people -- the university's enrollment is nearly double that at more than 2,000 students -- approximately 80 miles east of Pittsburgh. It may be best known as the place Charles Schwab grew up.
