Erin has become the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, with several areas already on alert for heavy rain and strong waves and rip currents possible along the East Coast of the United States as early as next week.

Erin is now a hurricane and the National Hurricane Center is expecting the hurricane to become a category four storm by early next week before turning north. North Florida or South Georgia will NOT impacts from Erin.

The National Hurricane Center announced Erin had been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane with 75 mph sustained winds on Friday morning. At this time, Hurricane Erin is not expected to directly impact the United States.
