Ohio officially has a measles outbreak, the state health department announced Wednesday. The outbreak consists of 10 people in Ashtabula County, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) said in a press release, nine of which are linked to an unvaccinated man reported last week as the state's first measles case of 2025.

The Texas Health Department released new numbers today, revealing that the measles outbreak is rapidly approaching 500 cases. Since Tuesday, 59 additional cases have been reported, bringing the total to 488.
According to the Houston Health Department, an unvaccinated individual with a confirmed case of measles was at Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas.
“Measles is more common in different places and exposure during travel is something we need to consider," New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said. "It’s important that New Yorkers ensure they are up-to-date regarding being immunized against measles. In some cases measles is as close as a car ride away."
While health care practitioners and facilities are required to report cases of measles to the Pennsylvania Department of Health or “the appropriate local health authority” — which includes local health departments, where they exist — within 24 hours, the state Department of Health does not always make cases public.
The potential exposure occurred between 6:15 and 10 p.m. on March 23 at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health. Locations listed within the hospital include the main entrance atrium, atrium elevators to the lower level and emergency department. The virus can linger in the air for about two hours after an infected individual has left the room.
Measles is "highly contagious, spread via air or contaminated surfaces, and can lead to serious health complications," TCPH says.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Harris County Public Health said it's investigating a measles case in a child younger than 18. Health officials said the child lives in northwest Harris County and doesn't have a history of traveling. The child has had the first of two measles vaccines.
These numbers are just a slight increase from last week, when the OSDH reported seven confirmed measles cases and two probable cases.
