In return, the Celtics get Luis, the 2025 Big East Player of the Year out of St. John's who signed a two-way contract with the Jazz after going undrafted this summer. This is less about the player Boston got in return, and solely about the financial aspect of it, and they've saved money by sending Niang to Utah.

Niang -- who was born in Lawrence and grew up in Methuen -- was acquired by the Celtics from the Hawks in late June in a salary dump that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta. The Celtics also received a future second-round pick in the move, which shed Porzingis' $30 million salary off the Boston books.

The Boston Celtics have traded Georges Niang and two future second-round picks to the Utah Jazz for rookie RJ Luis Jr., it was announced Tuesday. Niang's more than $8 million salary will go into Utah's trade exception from the John Collins deal.
