Asif said India's rhetoric was intensifying and Pakistan's military had briefed the government on the possibility of an attack.

At the same time, the State Department reiterated its strong support for India, stating that Washington “stands with India and strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Pahalgam,” echoing earlier remarks made by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

The Pakistani government said that if India followed through on a threat to block rivers it would take it as “an act of war.”
