A beloved police K-9 named “Azi” and a suspect were fatally shot Thursday during a barricade situation at the Red Roof Inn on Highway 75 (North Central Expressway), authorities said.

Azi, deployed as many as 62 times in his brief K9 career, died March 13. Police say an armed suspect barricaded in a North Central Expressway hotel threatened all of the officers who responded.

MCKINNEY, Texas — A McKinney Police K9 was killed along with a shooting suspect during an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon, police said.
