The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has appealed a court decision that stated the DEC must process Tony Cavallaro's application to keep Albert the Alligator.

Acting Commissioner for New York State has released a statement regarding its plans to review its current wildlife protection and enforcement process following the seizure of Peanut the squirrel in October of 2024.

Peanut the Squirrel was a viral squirrel kept as a pet but was euthanized after it bit a DEC operator in October last year. Officials said an internal investigation began after the handling of this case. Lefton’s statement is below.
