Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the Connecticut team said to ESPN that a deal was reached to relocate the Sun to Boston for the 2027 WNBA season, but that the sale by the current owners, the Mohegan Tribe, and the move still needs to be approved by the league's WNBA Board of Governors.

Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca shared an “important update” on his planned acquisition of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun.

If the sale and move go through, Boston will be part of a wave of new WNBA cities. The league announced Portland, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia as expansion cities in an upcoming wave of growth, which will unfold over the next five years.
