TikTok is now unavailable in the United States after the Supreme Court upheld a law banning it in the country unless the app was sold by its Chinese parent company. TikTok’s owner ByteDance is appealing to President-elect Trump to bring it back online once he takes office.

TikTok is once again running in the United States after a brief ban on Sunday (January 19). The Chinese-based social media platform announced it was in the process of restoring service and praised President-elect Donald Trump for his role in the change.

ByteDance now has to show that it’s making significant progress on a deal to sell TikTok to a US-based company.

While Trump gained praise from users for the reprieve, he faces long-time skeptics in his own Republican Party about what they see as the app’s ongoing national security threat.
