Illegal migrants and other non-citizens in Minnesota could circumvent election law and vote simply by presenting a driver’s license on election day — though election officials stress that the practice is illegal.

The AP will provide vote results and declare winners in the Minneapolis mayoral race and in the two state Senate special elections. Municipal elections will be held for local offices across the state, such as the Minneapolis City Council, St. Paul mayor and Duluth School Board, but those contests will not be included in AP’s vote tabulation.

With a 53% approval rating, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz ranks in the bottom half of governors nationwide, according to a Morning Consult poll.

She joins a crowded race for Republicans who are looking to beat Gov. Tim Walz and break a 14-year streak of Democrats holding the office.
