Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek were both subject to doping cases last year, which has overshadowed their participation at the Australian Open.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) on Monday named Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek as men’s and women’s singles World Champions of 2024 respectively in recognition of their performances at the Grand Slams and other top events last season.

Iga Swiatek, a self-described “control freak,” is taking new precautions — including holding on to extra samples of medicine she takes, in case they need to be tested at some point — after a doping case she describes as probably the worst time in her life.

While Sinner will take on Rune, the other matches will see Italy's L. Sonego take on L. Tien who managed to get past Medvedev on his way here.
