Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko completed a dream run to the National Bank Open title Thursday night, overcoming a slow and swollen right wrist start to beat Japanese star Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Mboko has played so much tennis this season for one reason — because she wins and wins and wins some more. She’s just doing it on ever-bigger stages. In addition to Osaka and Rybakina, she beat world No. 2 Coco Gauff and 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin on the way to the title.

Victoria Mboko saved a match point, rallied from a set down and fought through a wrist injury to win a three-set thriller over Elena Rybakina in the National Bank Open semifinals. The 18-year-old rising star from Toronto became the first Canadian since Bianca Andreescu’s title run in 2019 to reach the tournament’s final. (Aug. 7, 2025)
