London’s Grenfell Tower, which was engulfed in flames more than seven years ago in a disaster that killed 72 people, will be demolished, bereaved families and survivors said on Thursday.

Survivors and bereaved families’ groups said Britain’s deputy prime minister had told them that the site of the 2017 catastrophe would be dismantled.

The British government said Friday the Grenfell Tower, where 72 people died in a west London 2017 fire, will be taken down. A 6-year investigation found it was avoidable and caused by incompetence, dishonesty and greed.
