Hours before first light on Saturday, Nov. 2, they set off from Westside Regional Park’s boat launch in Bodega Bay. Johnny and Prasong were familiar with the area.

On Saturday, members of the Phommathep and Khammoungkhoune families and a longtime friend launched their 21-foot Bayliner about 3 p.m. from Westside Regional Park.
