University of California President Michael V. Drake, M.D., directed all UC locations to implement a staff hiring freeze as soon as possible. This action is part of a broader effort to thoughtfully curtail expenses and minimize impacts on our current workforce.

As the Trump administration threatens to pull federal funds from universities, including for medical and scientific research, the University of California has announced a hiring freeze and additional cuts.

UC will join a number of universities across the country that have implemented hiring freezes amid the Trump administration’s threats to cut university funding. Other universities that have announced hiring freezes include Harvard University, Stanford University and North Carolina State University.
