CTrail is teaming up with the Amherst Railway Society and Springfield Union Station for two “special roundtrip train rides between Springfield and Hartford,” according to a release.

The Naugatuck Railroad and the Railway Museum of New England offers free train rides for kids on the Torrington Twilight Express and the Naugatuck River Scenic.

During the train ride, kids dressed up as the characters from “The Polar Express” movie, walked from car to car to talk with other kids about what they wanted for Christmas.

The train ride — a one-eighth scale model of a diesel engine — first arrived at Descanso Gardens as a seasonal attraction in the 1980s, and became a permanent feature in 1996.
