An 18-year-old man is dead after being shot by a Marion police officer Wednesday morning. A press release issued by the Marion Police Department states the man was shot after threatening two officers with a machete.

A county prosecutor ruled that officers acted lawfully when they fatally shot Thomas Sanford, who opened fire during services, set the church ablaze and ignored repeated commands to surrender.
