Virginia Zoo said the new pup was born on Aug. 31 to parents Izel and Vigo, which are a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Southern Three-banded Armadillo Species Survival Plan (SSP).
No, that’s not a dinosaur. Or dragon. Or Pokémon. It’s a baby southern three-ringed armadillo, born at the Virginia Zoo in August. It’s the second pup born to its mother, Izel, and father, Vigo.
Armadillos slowly migrated from the west and were first spotted in Tennessee about 35 years ago, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency.
