Flight delays and cancellations are mounting across the U.S. And they're likely to get worse leading up to Thanksgiving.
Airline passengers were already looking at higher fares and packed planes this holiday season. But the holiday headaches might get much worse as the government shutdown causes flight reductions at major airports.
The unpaid air traffic controller situation is so bad, Uncle Sam is ordering airlines to reduce flights regardless of high holiday demand. There is actually a funded fix for this but those who could fix it are staring each other down.
Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia and Teterboro were listed among the 40 “high volume market” airports that will be affected by flight cancellations as part of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s pledge to keep American travelers safe in the sky, CBS News reported.
The answer, as far as I can tell, is: No. There was some news about the company cutting "a “small” number of management and support roles, mostly at its Fort Worth headquarters, in an effort to recalibrate its workforce to match current needs," per ABC News. But... that's it? No word on the whole company shutting down full operations anytime soon.
