Capitol Hill Republicans want to get more involved in DOGE, hoping to make cuts permanent. With their slim majorities, it won't be easy.

Congressional Republicans are looking to codify DOGE cuts in what could be a huge win for Elon Musk. The Goldman Sachs alum did not endorse all the new administration’s policies. The Trump administration is reportedly finalizing a new travel ban that would be broader than the previous bans from his first term.

Republicans could pivot to a process that would provide legal backing to DOGE’s ambitious cost-cutting campaign, but could expose them to public scrutiny from constituents.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, who established DOGE-OK via executive order last month, acknowledged that reality to Politico, noting that as DOGE is "trying to cut $2 trillion out of the federal spending … a lot of money from the feds goes to the states."
