Joe Ely, the country music rocker best known for his work with Bruce Springsteen, the Clash and more, has died. He was 78. He died at his home in Taos, New Mexico, from complications of Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson’s disease and pneumonia, per the post.
Lloyd Maines, father of The Chicks’ Natalie Maines, played pedal steel guitar. Ely had an accordionist and piano and everyone rocked hard—“Fingernails” live, top that, anyone. Or his rendition (tribute, actually—Ely and Holly shared the same music roots in Lubbock, Texas) of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away”? Sweet Jesus!
