A federal judge has halted President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to block international students from coming to Harvard University. The temporary restraining order issued late Thursday by US District Judge Allison Burroughs came hours after the university urged the judge to step in on an emergency basis to block a proclamation Trump signed a day earlier that suspends international visas for new students.

A federal judge late on Thursday issued a temporary restraining order against President Donald Trump’s recently signed executive order banning Harvard from admitting foreign students. U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs’ order is an extension of a previous order issued against the administration in May after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) attempted to revoke Harvard’s eligibility to host students on foreign visas.

Harvard University said on Thursday that U.S. President Donald Trump's move to bar foreign nationals seeking to study at the Ivy League school from entering the United States is illegal, and asked a judge to block it immediately pending further litigation.
