After ICE agents arrested immigrants in LA's fashion district, protests began, and Donald Trump called in the National Guard.
The National Guard was deployed to Los Angeles County as anti-ICE protests continued to escalate Saturday afternoon and into the evening. The unrest is centered in the city of Paramount, California, where protesters clashed with federal authorities,
The city acknowledged that the change could make it more difficult for some families to visit detained loved ones.
National Guard members were deployed to Los Angeles following Trump's authorization to deploy 2,000 members in response to violent riots.
State law, in fact, specifically prohibits local law enforcement from working with federal immigration enforcement operations in most instances.
Governor Gavin Newsom said the U.S. President “manufactured” the chaos in Los Angeles to distract from challenges and seize power.
“SEIU California members call for the immediate release of our President, David Huerta, who was injured and detained at the site of one of today's ICE raids in Los Angeles. He is now receiving medical attention while in custody,” Tia Orr, Executive Director of SEIU California, said.
